The Viera Cast TVs, which will be launched in spring, will have the main functions and features of the system such as voice and video calls, free Skype to Skype calls, calls to conventional lines and cell phones with cheap rates, reception of calls via a Skype number, Skype voicemail and voice conferences of up to 24 users.
Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company Vice President Bob Perry explained that the addition of Skype will bring HDTV connectivity to a new standard. "Viera Cast was created to offer users of Viera HDTVs a new level of entertainment by providing them with access to some of the most popular content based on Internet sites," he said.
When making a video call on a Viera Cast TV, a Panasonic camera will be used which has been designed to connect to the TV. This equipment has a microphone system that captures the sound at the distance of the sofa and the resolution of the image will be 720p in high definition video quality.
