Digital signage at airports

Dynamic and up-to-date communication at an airport is crucial as it keeps users abreast of  flight information, which is accurate and up-to-date.

DSLatam

In every large city, airports represent a public place of great activity. Between arrivals and flight departures, people interact, exchange ideas, communicate and in parallel, receive information.

The endless lines, very long waits and delays caused by bad weather, are some of the circumstances that live, those who circulate there. Facilitating the boarding and arrival of passengers on different flights has become a priority for airports, in order to improve the service provided to users.

How to inform users directly, timely and effectively without provoking any unnecessary movement?  Digital Signage is now an elementary tool that provides guidance and information to travelers twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. The Association of Digital Signage Latin America (DSLatam), promotes  the  implementation and professionalization of Digital Signage to  develop quality standards and generation of metrics, which expand the benefits in the various industries.

As technology has evolved, the means of communicating with users have transformed with it. There are several solutions in Digital Signage that facilitate and improve the dynamics and  operation of airports around the world.

Some airports have special variants of FIDS such as Baggage Information Systems (BIDS) or Gate Information System (GIDS). Other airports use a generic term such as the Passenger Information System (PIDS).  Digital  Signage is highly visible and essential in these areas since it provides the necessary information in real time about air control, segmented by areas, with the possibility of connection to different sources of information that allow the timely update of last-minute changes.

The implementation of Wayfinding in airport hubs  provides detailed information to visitors about their  location through maps and interactive navigation routes. The interactive kiosks allow a more personalized attention to the user since consultation  and orientation modules are offered that provide detailed information of flights, locations, etc. Both implementations can count on advertising content that generates revenue through brands that will pay to have their spaces retail, promoted on maps and directories.

Another trend in airport signage is the  implementation of video walls, as they can be customized to change content or blended into various elements to attract global advertisers, boosting ad concession sales to airport tenants.  By mixing content with advertising, video walls  can help airports create an additional stream of valuable revenue.

More and more airports will be looking to incorporate Digital Signage into their spaces; Dynamic and up-to-date communication at an airport is crucial as it keeps users abreast of  flight information, which is accurate and up-to-date. By combining these factors with the ability to control all Digital Signage from one central location, it will come as no surprise that the rise of digital signage facilities is a trend for workers and commuters to enjoy.
