International. After months of rumors of the possible sale of Sharp, this week the business was closed, being acquired by Foxconn, which paid US $ 3,500 million for two thirds of the company's shares, or 66.66%.
Japan's Sharp is a manufacturer known in Europe for its high-quality displays, though in Asia it has a line of cell phones and other electronics. But the company had lowered its sales due to strong competition and was bought for less than the $6 billion initially expected.
The buyer, taiwanese Foxconn, renowned for being the device maker for Apple, has not yet announced what the plans are, but it is assumed that it will have to make changes to be able to face a highly competitive market.
What was known is that Foxconn wants to concentrate Sharp's developments in IGZO technology, which gives the screens quality comparable to Oled technology, but with lower consumption.
