Epson launched the Mapping Challenge Mexico

Mexico. Epson presented its Mapping Challenge initiative in Mexico, which consists of a contest for mappers entitled Embroidery of Light- Stories of Coyoacán, whose objective is to highlight the culture of this emblematic place of the country and that will culminate with a light show that will materialize on the façade of the San Juan Bautista Temple in the neighborhood of the same name, the next 18 and 19 August.

The Epson Mapping Challenge project aims to transmit, through artistic projections in public spaces, the material and immaterial wealth of eight Latin American countries. The first country to make the broadcast was Peru. Now the company launches in Mexico the call for designers, audiovisual producers and mappers, to join this important effort of cultural dissemination.

The theme of the Mapping Challenge Mexico is Embroidery of Light- Stories of Coyoacan, which invites participants to develop narratives where the most relevant traditional aspects of this delegation from the south of the Mexican capital are highlighted, a space that stands out for the artistic, historical and tourist infrastructure that is concentrated there with museums, theaters and representative squares, in addition to the great colonial architecture, which is why it was chosen from among other spaces.

The call for artists of the projection to participate in the contest is open and will conclude, for Mexico City, on July 29. Those interested should send an email to: [email protected] with their contact details, how they found out about the call and a Latin American headquarters where they want to project their work, since in addition to Mexico, the winning mappers will be able to capture their designs on buildings in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Cartagena, Colombia and Santiago de Chile, among other important cities in the region.

The projects that best convey the cultural heritage of each venue will be recognized by a jury of experts and will have the opportunity to be presented by their creators internationally, as well as new creative proposals together with the sponsors of the event.

The Temple of San Juan Bautista in Coyoacán, recognized for its Baroque-Novohispana architecture, will be the construction where the visions and stories developed by the participants are projected and will be added to a list of eight monuments from different countries that will tour the Epson Mapping Challenge, an initiative that will conclude in the building of the Faculty of Law of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in March 2018.

"Embroidery of Light- Stories of Coyoacan is the way we demonstrate our commitment to the dissemination and appreciation of culture, as well as the traditions of Mexico to project it to the whole world."
