Latin America. An avid user of Powersoft amplifiers since 2009, Lennox Foster, president of Sound Media, turned to the brand when it needed the right amps to power the 1970s rock bands Firefall, Poco and Pure Prairie League during a concert at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater in South Florida.
His company, a full-fledged audio, lighting and AV rental production company based in Hollywood, Florida, has been using Powersoft equipment for nearly a decade, and when Foster accepted this job, he knew Powersoft's X-Series and K-Series amplifiers would be the appropriate choice.
In addition to installing a temporary PA system and the lights required for the performance, Sound Media amplified the show using a variety of Powersoft units, including 12 Powersoft X4 amplifiers, 18 Powersoft K2 amplifiers, and 6 Powersoft K10 amplifiers — all located on the left side of the stage.
"The X Series and K Series units we chose are very efficient and really helped us meet our power requirements for the show," Foster said. "One of the things we pride ourselves on is our ability to leave less of an energy footprint. The low-current power flow in the amplifiers is phenomenal — it's extremely efficient. So, from a single power source we can now power many more Powersoft amplifiers."
Alleviating Reverberation Challenges
For being outdoors, Foster said the Pompano Beach Amphitheater is very thoughtful. However, by choosing Powersoft amplifiers with DSP processing on each channel, the units' unparalleled features and clarity helped address unwanted reverberations. "In addition, by having the ability to have processing on each channel of the amplifier, we were able to achieve nuances of power easily," Foster added. "Powersoft amplifiers help us manipulate sound with more definition and precision."
Space Saving
In addition to their clarity and efficiency, Foster said the small footprint of the X Series and K Series amplifiers makes them easy to use. "The single-rack space design is great and with its power density you can get a lot of amplification in small spaces," Foster said. "Some of these places don't always have a right place for larger racks, so the more compact your power source is, the better you can adapt it to those spaces, which of course is something that all production managers love."
