International. For its 2018 edition, IoTSWC has established nine thematic axes on which the more than 125 sessions planned in its Congress will revolve: connected transport; manufacture of goods; healthcare; energy and supplies; construction and infrastructure; open industry; enabling technologies; blockchain and artificial intelligence, the latter two with monographic forums.
Specifically, the main novelty of this year, the "AI & Cognitive Systems Forum", will focus on the benefits that artificial intelligence brings to IoT infrastructures when analyzing and processing data; simplify decision-making; identify, understand and predict patterns; automate and customize processes; in addition to achieving greater efficiency and security in the connection of different devices and equipment.
The director of IoTSWC, Roger Bou, points out: "Artificial intelligence puts the IoT at a higher level transforming data analytics into valuable knowledge with which to automate different processes." Bou highlights that "the next step, which opens an exciting future, is for connected devices with cognitive abilities to learn for themselves to make decisions."
Faced with this challenge, the next edition of the event organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) aims to show the infinite possibilities of combining these technologies and will bet especially on the explanation of success stories.
In addition, the sessions of this forum on artificial intelligence will analyze trends in computational techniques such as machine learning, augmented reality or deep learning. It will also talk about algorithmic training, AI system architectures and their relationship with big data technology, issues related to security and privacy, the necessary standardization and possible industrial alliances, among other topics.
At the same time, this year the organization expects to significantly increase the presence of artificial intelligence solutions for direct application in IoT infrastructures for different industrial environments in the Commercial Exhibition Area of the IoTSWC.
Also the testbeds area of the event will allow to see in action experimentation platforms that combine IoT with blockchain and artificial intelligence. In this sense, the executive director of the IIC, Dr. Richard Soley, highlights: "in this edition of the IoTSWC it will be possible to verify how technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain or robotics act as disruptive mechanisms when implementing IoT infrastructures in real markets such as agriculture, the health system, transport, smart cities, the automotive industry or the manufacture of goods, among other economic sectors".
Confirming this trend, many experts foresee a sharp increase in demand for this type of solutions. Specifically in the field of artificial cognitive systems, the consultancy IDC estimates that companies will invest 57,600 million dollars in 2021 with a compound annual growth rate of 50.1%.
IoT Solutions World Congress will be held from 16 to 18 October in Barcelona.
