Wanda Film Holding, a subsidiary of Wanda Group and asia's largest film exhibitor, has co-founded with Christie a research and development (R&D) centre at the service of film technology. The facility will be located at Wanda Studios' headquarters in Qingdao, In China's Shandong Province.
The sole owner of the new Wanda-Christie Centre for Excellence in Film Technology (CTCE) will be Wanda Film Holding. As an exclusive partner, Christie will be responsible for operating the high-tech facilities, contributing to the most advanced R&D in digital cinema projection systems by:
RGB laser projection technology tailored to the needs of Wanda Film Holding and its subsidiaries worldwide;
RGB laser solutions to renew xenon lamp projection systems;
cinema solutions for Wanda's large premium auditoriums (in the fields of projection, audio, screen and 3D/4D technology);
LED screens for cinema;
service solutions for networked operation centers, and
comparative tests of xenon lamp technology and other competitive lighting technologies.
The ETSC assists Wanda and Christie in fields such as laser/lighting technology selection, including advice, wherever needed, when choosing, globally, the best xenon to RGB laser upgrade technology, based on christie's more than 60,000 digital cinema projectors installed in theaters around the world. In addition, the new center will guide Christie's product development, especially in everything related to customized products for the exclusive use of Wanda or any of its subsidiaries. Christie will also use the CTCE as its main commercial testing center for all new film products.
Wanda Film Holding and Christie will officially open the ETSC at a ceremony on April 27, where senior executives from the two companies will unveil a commemorative plaque. The event will also be attended by local dignitaries from china's Ministry of Science and Technology.
Prior to this collaboration, Wanda Film Holding had signed an exclusive strategic partnership agreement with Christie for the installation of several thousand digital projectors for 2K and 4K cinema of Christie's Solaria Series, as well as the Christie Vive Audio solution in some theaters.
Wanda Film Holding and Christie have also embarked in recent years on initiatives aimed at fostering the development of the technology, brand and market of Wanda's Hall 9 theaters, some of which (such as CBD Wanda Plaza and Tongzhou Wanda Plaza in Beijing and Wujiaochang Wanda Cinema in Shanghai) have been equipped with Christie's RGB laser projection and Vive Audio cinema sound system.
