Signify transmits data through light

Latin America. In the most recent version of the Ibero-American Meeting of Lighting Design – EILD, which took place in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, Signify presented the latest innovations in connected lighting systems and services.

The lighting designers who attended the EILD event were able to experience for the first time in Latin America LiFi (Light Fidelity) technology: the latest innovation that allows broadband internet access through light. LiFi, unlike WiFi, uses light waves instead of radio waves to transmit data in a highly secure, bidirectional and highly higher speed manner.

It offers a broadband connection with a speed of 30 megabytes per second without compromising the quality of lighting. With that speed, a user can simultaneously stream multiple HD quality videos while making video calls.

Gladys Gatti, Director of Product Marketing for Latin America, stressed that "These connected light systems strengthen our position as a leading company in the field, always at the forefront of trends and we are pleased to be able to share them first-hand with designers and lighting experts in our region."

Today, more than 30 customers in Europe, North America and Asia are piloting LiFi technology, and it is possible to witness the benefits of this innovation in companies such as Atea, a leading IT infrastructure company in the Nordic and Baltic region, which installed LiFi luminaires in the lobby of its building so that people who visit the company can try the technology. Also in the vicinity of Paris, France, the French telecommunications company Orange tests the technology in its offices.

Under this new innovative proposal, Signify also recently announced the implementation of its Interact Landmark system and Color Kinetics LED luminaires to revitalize up to 15 of london's iconic River Thames bridges with artistic and dynamic effects through its central management software.

The company will also provide lifecycle services to remotely monitor and manage connected bridge lighting over the next 10 years.

The company launched in Latin America Interact, its IoT (Internet of Things) platform for connected lighting systems. Interact is designed to manage the data collected by each of the connected light points: devices, sensors and lighting systems. This highly secure, scalable and cloud-based platform manages and processes data generating relevant information that provides benefits beyond lighting.

Signify is the new name of Philips Lighting.
