Costa Rica. The Humboldt School is an international school in San Jose, Costa Rica, serving students from preschool through high school. Unique in the country to be founded in 1912 by Germans and emphasizes a German-based education, Humboldt is also known for its profusion of extracurricular activities.
Recently, the school built a new performing arts space to expand its program, Humboldt Auditorium, a multipurpose auditorium equipped with Elation Professional luminaires.
The Humboldt Auditorium is a modern space, with capacity for 238 people, where students perform recitals and all kinds of dance, music, theater and debate. It houses top-of-the-line audiovisual equipment with specialized technical staff to provide support.
Elation's distributor for Costa Rica, Darko Lighting, completed the lighting project. They supplied, designed and installed new scenic and architectural lighting systems for the auditorium, along with a decorative stretched ceiling, working in cooperation with the architecture firm Rojas Arquitectos.
The auditorium's new stage lighting system includes 16 Fuze PAR Z175 ™ fixtures, a modern PAR light with a 175W COB RGBW LED motor that projects a high-quality flat light field but emulates the classic lens look of a traditional Fresnel. Fuze devices are powered by 16 Color 5 Profiles, a high-quality ellipsoidal point with 180W RGBAM LED motor and CRI over 94. For positioning flexibility, the system also includes four moving heads, Fuze Wash Z350s, a single-source PAR Automated fork wash luminaire with 120W COB RGBW LED and 7° to 55° zoom.
Darko Lighting's associate director, Gabriel Zalkindas Jarovisky, specified the lighting system for the auditorium. "Quality, performance and price were determining factors in the choice of these products," he said. "The lighting system is also quite flexible, as it is used for a variety of purposes, both in the school and in the external artists who come in and use the auditorium, making it an educational and public space."
Completed late last year, in addition to serving as a performing arts platform for students, the Humbolt School Auditorium also hosts cultural events and is available for commercial use.
