Panama. Patronato Panama Viejo selected the company Signify to illuminate the historic complex on its 500th anniversary. This proposal is a combination of its state-of-the-art connected lighting platform, based on the Internet of Things and solar lighting systems.
Founded in 1519, Panama Viejo is the oldest European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas and its design marks the adoption in the region of the pioneering concept of a planned city. Five hundred years later, the city innovates again. The new lighting project uses Signify's latest outdoor solar technology and the Internet of Things (IoT)-based platform Interact Landmark to enable the interconnectivity of the city's entire lighting system.
The first phase of the lighting master plan, inaugurated for the anniversary of this UNESCO World Heritage site, includes three monuments: the Visitor Center, the Tower of the Plaza Mayor and the Convent of Concepción. When completed, the project will allow the city to be connected through lighting.
For the transition between the monuments, a 100% sustainable solar lighting system has been implemented. The installation of solar luminaires, Signify's latest advance in outdoor lighting, reduces electricity consumption and protects the integrity of the archaeological site, as it does not require wiring.
SunStay luminaires, take advantage of the energy of the sun to provide high quality lighting, will be installed on the roads that lead to the monuments, this not only generates zero consumption, but also offers greater security and comfort to citizens, these equipment have batteries and integrated solar panels, which ensures that the visual impact is the least possible and in this case is a fully harmonious element in a unique combination with this architecture dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
These solar street lighting solutions are 100% autonomous and integrate presence sensors to save battery consumption when they do not detect objects or people, it is therefore a reliable, high quality lighting with a design that fits in any environment.
The monuments will be illuminated with Color Kinetics, RGBA luminaires with IntelliHue technology to enable maximum flow and lighting control between white and exact colors within the buildings.
Signify's strong commitment to technology aims to improve people's lives, enabling the growth of cities and communities in a safe and ecological way.
For the first time, residents and tourists will have the unique opportunity to enjoy the new lighting in an intuitive way by downloading the Panama Viejo application, an app that allows users to interact online with the lighting of all monuments. The app is available on the App Store (iOS devices) or Play Store (Android devices) and can be downloaded for free by anyone.
