Latin America. Human Centric Lighting tries to link lighting to the human being, precisely adapting its characteristics to each of the needs posed by the individual in its different facets and trying to achieve a maximum quality of light and lighting in each moment and situation.
Light has a great effect on people: it not only allows us to see, but it stimulates and influences our mood, affects our activity levels and productivity. For these reasons, the ultimate goal of the HCL is to create solutions to improve overall well-being.
New trends and technologies in lighting, along with new insights into the biological effects of light, can prevent sleep disorders and improve concentration, among other benefits. With LED technology, for example, a tunable white light can be achieved in an energy-efficient manner. The new lighting systems, intelligent and connected, offer endless possibilities with better user control.
This applies in schools, offices and homes and determines what type of light is best based on the time of day. What is sought is to align with our natural rhythms by imitating the progression of sunlight throughout the day. "It is necessary to start modeling the spectral composition of artificial light in search of an activating or relaxing effect on the organism," explains Fernando Deco, specialist in Visual Environment and Efficient Lighting and professor at the UTN.
According to the Office Lighting Solution 2018 report, those who were exposed to healthy lighting showed, by 19%, reduced fatigue. In addition, the sample recorded a 27% improvement in concentration capacity; 37% more mental acuity and a 23% increase in employee satisfaction.
On the other hand, there is a clear economic benefit to this trend. According to a report by the specialized consultancy Memoori, the global market that has developed around this technology is expected to reach a value of 849 million dollars in 2019, and 3.5 billion dollars by 2024.
Europe leads the way with a $395 million market accounting for 46% of global revenue, followed by North America with $238.3 million or 28% of total revenue, and the Asia Pacific region with $181.7 million or 21% share in this fast-growing space.
Human-centered lighting, in this way, is shaping the future of the commercial lighting industry.
