Colombia. The World Environment Day celebrated in June, recalls the importance of promoting initiatives that allow the long-term viability of human life on planet earth.
That is why Furukawa announces the launch of the Green IT program, which through a set of actions articulated between the manufacturer, business partners and customers, aims to significantly reduce the use of non-renewable resources, save energy and protect the environment from harmful materials.
Green IT is a program with the aim of raising awareness about the use of technological resources. The initiative is mainly focused on optimizing the treatment of waste from copper cables that have already completed their life cycle, and replacing them with environmentally friendly solutions.
Furukawa invites the companies of Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga, and their business partners in the country, to join this initiative that aims to discard / change copper cables as are some used for UTP, energy or telephone of any manufacturer.
To participate in the Green IT program, the client must fill in their data in the form www.furukawalatam.com/es/responsabilidad-socioambiental, once the registration has been made, the client will be sent the appropriate bags to collect the material and proceed to the classification of the discarded cables, a task in charge of a company specialized in the recycling of electronic waste.
Finally, Furukawa sends the client a certificate, which confirms their participation in the program and a "green check" in which the weight and value of the material delivered is specified. Subsequently, that check may be redeemed at any Furukawa Authorized Sales Channel as payment for any of the company's solution.
This program was implemented in Brazil in 2008, and currently has 1,132 related companies. Since its inception, until the end of 2019, more than 1,505,671 kilograms of recycled materials had been collected, including materials contaminated with heavy metals (752,836 Kg) and copper ores (143,038,745 Kg). Likewise, a reduction in electricity consumption of 14,394,215 KwH has been generated, which is equivalent to 95,961 homes supplied by this service for a month.
