Samsung and Google join forces for smart homes

casas inteligentes

Latin America. Samsung SmartThings announced a partnership with Google by adding the company's Nest product portfolio to SmartThings. Through the integration, Google Nest devices, including thermostats, cameras and doorbells, will be "Works With SmartThings" (WWST) certified, allowing users to control their smart homes seamlessly through SmartThings.

For the first time, SmartThings users will be able to adjust a Nest thermostat, watch live camera streams from outdoor Nest cameras, and hear who's at the door with Nest Hello, all through their smart devices. In addition, SmartThings users will also be able to add Nest devices to their current WWST-certified devices to create automated Scenes and Experiences, controlling functions with simple voice commands or via the SmartThings app. Soon, they'll be able to stream from their Nest devices directly to their Samsung TV or Family Hub fridge.

SmartThings technology drives endless possibilities to improve everyday life: Scenes can adjust lighting fluidly, automations can tell a Nest thermostat when it's time to adjust the temperature, or if there's an open window, and you can set the ideal temperature for a baby's nap or even a pet alone at home, taking into account details such as the length of their fur. Users can also activate the exterior and interior lights before arriving home.

"SmartThings technology continues to expand and improve the way we experience smart living. We're excited to further strengthen our partnership with Google and integrate Nest into our portfolio to give users more ways to control and automate their home. We are committed to creating a universal system in which all smart home devices can work together," said Ralf Elias, Global Vice President of IOT/Business Development & Partnerships at Samsung Electronics.

Following the recent integration of SmartThings IoT with Mercedes-Benz, this partnership with Google represents the next step in SmartThings' commitment to technological innovation and working with third parties to create a universal smart home standard. The company is focused on simplifying the development of smart technology for manufacturers and increasing compatibility for consumers.
