International. The Spanish painter Francisco de Goya was one of the most influential artists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Always innovative, he managed to get ahead of each and every one of the pictorial movements that appeared in Europe, from Romanticism to Surrealism, through Impressionism and Expressionism. He is therefore considered the Father of Contemporary Art.
Goya was born on March 30, 1746 in Fuendetodos, a small town in the province of Zaragoza (northeastern Spain). Precisely to celebrate the 275th anniversary of his birth, the Zaragoza vocal group B Vocal devised a show Las Voces de Goya, in the Auditorium of Zaragoza, which transported the spectators to the time in which the artist lived, mixing theater, dance, chamber music and multimedia projection.
In total, there were 13 Aragonese artists on stage among dancers, instrumentalists, actors and the components of B Vocal, who combined their talents in a proposal that covered musically and theatrically the life of the painter, his emotional dimension, his origins, evolution and life trajectory.
DG Visuals, a multidisciplinary creative design studio for events and audiovisual installations, was responsible for the multimedia projection, responsible for the creation and execution of the visual show that integrated lighting and video, as well as the generation of video content and lighting design. For the projection, a white cyclorama of 10x7 meters was used with two laser projectors of 18,000 lumens working in dual, with a resolution of 1920x1200.
Christie Pandoras Box was the backbone of the multimedia show, as it connected all the audiovisual systems and controlled various aspects, such as projection, blending and lighting.
David Gálvez, director of DG Visuals, said "In our studio we have been using Pandoras Box for a long time, mainly for the design of personalized shows (always integrating lighting with video), interactive videomappings, extreme warping, interactivity with sensors, video control from lighting consoles, audiovisual installations ... One of the aspects that we like the most is the capacity and versatility it has to be able to be controlled from lighting consoles, which gives us a lot of play when it comes to creating video shows and synchronized lights".
Specifically for this show, DG Visuals used Pandoras Box Manager, Pandoras Box Player and Christie Widget Designer, and David Gálvez tells the reason for the choice of these multimedia processing solutions: "We needed to have a timeline for the live with all the video backgrounds, and this had to be controlled from a Grandma2 lighting console by Artnet. With Pandoras Box it is very easy for us to program and adjust geometry to make the perfect dual."
DG Visuals used two PCs, one of them equipped with Pandoras Box Manager and Widget Designer, and the other with two Pandoras Box Player licenses to be able to have control of the two projectors individually.
"With Pandoras Box Manager we can have a timeline with its cues that may be paused. In parts of the show that are more improvised, this allows us to have the timeline paused but the video that is in that cue in loop, and when we need to continue the show we put it in play and makes a perfect fade to the next loop or video. The timeline can be controlled entirely from the lighting console giving plays, pauses, jump to cues and control of opacities, "explained the director of DG Visuals.
For his part, Augusto González Emperador, member of B Vocal and coordinator of the show, said "The truth is that we were delighted with the role played by the multimedia projection made by DG Visuals, which was of great quality. Everything fit perfectly, the synchronization was perfect and the impact it produced on the audience was huge. It's great to see how audiovisuals can generate a much more powerful experience in this type of musical shows."
