Mexico. A few weeks ago the hybrid concert (face-to-face and virtual) of the Toluca Philharmonic Orchestra was held to celebrate Father's Day and International Music Day.
This event, held at the Morelos Theater in the City of Toluca, was named as a "Renaissance" concert because for many artists and of course for the public, it meant the return to a face-to-face event after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maestro Gerardo Urbán y Fernández Director of the OFiT commented that this concert was very important since it meant a watershed of this new stage back to the stages, not only of the Philharmonic Orchestra but also of many of the most representative groups of the city such as Minita de Oro, Ether and Zur, who were part of the cast of the afternoon.
Regarding the name of the concert, he explained that "rebirth is not only a beautiful word, it means to die first, and that was a bit what happened last year, somehow we all suffered not only the losses but we had this need to let go of many things from our past, now it was time to start again, to do better, bigger and more beautiful things, because the experience we lived made us mature."
Teacher Maribel Cortés of the group Minita de Oro said that the group seeks to reinvent classic songs, so they presented great hits such as Bésame mucho, Cuando volver a tu lado, Sólo una vez and Cien años, among others.
Enrique Vega, from the group Ether, who delighted the audience with rock music in Spanish fused with the OFiT; he was grateful to the City Council of Toluca for opening spaces so necessary for the musicians of the State of Mexico.
The members of the group Zur, Alex and César Vega, commented that this concert represented a true gift for all attendees live and virtually in which they had the privilege of listening to their recent composition called Fénix which is a tribute to all the people who were lost by the pandemic and make an emotional reminder that united we can change, survive and be reborn like the Phoenix.
