Casio Sustainable Presentation Ideas Guide

Latin America. Commitment to the environment is not the exclusive task of governments or companies. All people can contribute to its conservation and care. Proof of this is the trend in the use of "green" products and services, those that are sustainable, and that reaches different areas of daily life such as public conferences, meetings in offices or classes in educational institutions.

 

Taking care of the carbon footprint generated by each person is an individual responsibility, but if when making a work presentation or teaching a class at the university you take these considerations, you will achieve an exposure not only more impactful, but you will contribute to the care of the environment.

Review suggestions and prepare a list of "green" actions to track them and ensure they are met.

 

Headquarters, transport and transfers

  • Choose a venue that is easily accessible to most of your guests. Check transportation options, as well as schedules and levels of vehicular traffic in the area to facilitate everyone's mobility.
  • Make sure the meeting takes place at the beginning of the day or at the end of business hours to minimize extra car travel.
  • Suggest your guests arrive by bicycle, public transport, taxi or carpool. Informal about the location of bicycle stations or transport routes. It publicly recognizes the efforts of those who implement these actions and offers small incentives for those who comply with them.
  • Consider providing a free transportation service to and from one or more key points in the city.

 

Reduces paper use

  • Call your conferences, events or work meetings using an electronic invitation and ask guests to confirm their attendance in the same way. There are currently many email services that offer this automated option.
  • Avoid printing badges or using plastic badge holders. If it is necessary to identify attendees, use self-adhesive labels so that they know each other.
  • Share the presentation and related content via email or use an online information repository from which they can be downloaded.
  • If it is inevitable to deliver the presentation on paper, expand the margins of the sheets and print on both sides in monochromatic mode.
  • Make every effort to ensure that no paper is used during your presentation and if necessary, use recycled paper.

 

Recycle and reuse materials

  • If you offer coffee break service, buy food and drinks in bulk to avoid the use of individual packaging that will generate a lot of garbage. 
  • Use water jugs, jugs with natural juices, coffee and powdered sugar in reusable containers.
  • Make sure plates, cutlery, cups, and cups are reusable. Look for napkins to be made of recyclable paper.
  • Plan food service according to the number of attendees to avoid food waste.
  • If it is necessary to use markers, consider printing generic materials that are used for other events or presentations. Avoid including information on the date, venue, topic, or names of speakers to extend the life of these materials.
  • Use containers to separate waste according to its type.  
  • Designates a person responsible to manage, collect and conserve materials that can be reused in another presentation.

 Energy saving

  • Make sure that the lighting and air conditioning system in the room is only used for the necessary periods. If possible, choose rooms or auditoriums with natural lighting and ventilation.
  • During breaks, turn off or activate the "saving mode" of audiovisual and computer equipment.
  • It uses equipment with low power consumption. For example, Casio LampFree projectors integrate a hybrid laser and LED lighting source system, which uses 50% less energy than lamp projectors; they do not heat up, so they do not require a fan and consequently are very quiet; in addition to offering a luminous performance with efficient display of colors and sharpness in the image.
  • Give preference to equipment free of lead, mercury, or hazardous substances. You can check that they comply with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) initiative or the Minamata Convention on the Use of Mercury.  By not using a lamp, Casio LampFree projectors are mercury-free and have an extra-long lifespan of at least 20,000 hours.

 

Spread the "green" information

  • It is important that you inform the crowd that your presentation will be "green". Highlight the ecological points of it, why you want to save energy or generate less CO2. Take a couple of minutes to explain how both organizers and audience will contribute to caring for the environment.
  • At the end of your presentation, apply a questionnaire on the impact of "green" actions. Use an online tool to conduct surveys, most offer a free basic option.
  • Ask those invited to participate in environmental care programs and remind them that their personal habits can save energy and reduce the generation of garbage. It is not enough to leave a better world to your children, but to offer better citizens to the planet.
  • Finally, practice the 3 "r": reduce, reuse and recycle (paper, metal, plastic and glass).
