Brazil. The rental company Luminário Produçoes, located in the north of Brazil, provides audio, video, lighting and structure solutions for different types of events.
Tomas Lyra, owner and manager of the company, recently had the opportunity to get a reasonably priced EAW system and decided to call audio engineer and friend Gera Vieira to do a test and see if it was a good investment for the company.
"At the beginning we were simply doing a research and search for a new loudspeaker system. I convinced Tomas that the only point where there was no hesitation was in the use of amplifiers for the system. He acquired two Powersoft X4s and we started using them for everything he had in his old inventory. From subs to wedges, we are always amazed by the results. I told him that these units were a good investment and that when I was ready to take the next step and acquire a new sound system, I would already have the right choice regarding amplification," Gera explained.
The EAW system had been in Brazil for a long time. "The only thing I can think of is that the people selling it had never been able to show a potential buyer the true sound of the speakers, since they didn't have a complete system without a processor and, mainly, without the right amplifier," Gera said.
When Tomas told him about what the seller had in hand, he quickly began studying the system, especially if he had presets for Powersoft's X Series. Not only did I have them, but I also had full interaction with EAW Greybox.
"I gave Tomas the green light to do a test after making sure I had all the information I needed. We flew to Porto Alegre, a city in southern Brazil, for testing and went to ProShows, a former EAW representative and one of Brazil's leading sellers of professional audio products. Once we turned on the system with the Powersoft amplifiers, we saw a surprised expression on the faces of everyone who was present during the test!"
"More than a theoretical achievement it was a field test that showed that we made the right decision! When we arrived at the site to test with the EAW system, a rack of Crown HD 4x3500 amplifiers was providing the power. Don't ask me what kind of processing there was but it wasn't what the loudspeakers needed. Once we switched for the X4 with the Greyboxes together for each speaker model of the system, the effect was immediate. The power of the amplifier combined with the power of the DSP controlled by the Armonía Pro Audio Suite software is unparalleled!" explained Gera.
The deal for the KF730 and SB730 EAW units was just the tip of the iceberg. A complete assembly consisting of 26 x KF740 was also tested and acquired the same day and Luminário is now awaiting the arrival of two Powersoft X8 DSP+D amplifiers and one more X4 that are already on the way to complete the power of the entire system.
In less than a year, Luminário's inventory went from zero to four X8 and three X4 amplifiers, plus a new multi-purpose EAW system.
The Powersoft Experience
Knowledge about Powersoft technology came to Gera when he took a Level One training course at Clair Brothers with Fabiano Rezende of Fly Audio Solutions, Head of Technical Support at Universal Music (Powersoft's distributor) in Brazil.
They exchanged a lot of information about Powersoft's ongoing developments and more recently Gera was invited by him and Jean Costa of Universal Music to translate a Harmony Training Seminar in São Paulo, promoted by River Music Pro, Universal Music's main dealer in the country.
"That's when I became a true believer and was totally fascinated by the way Powersoft's amplification technology interacts with transducers on a loudspeaker. I can tell you that after hearing a lot of things in the audio world, Powersoft is really on a much higher level than the competition! Since that day, I have turned the knowledge gained during the seminar into the driving force behind Luminário's new acquisitions," he said.
First use of the entire system
The first show for the assembly of KF730 & SB730 was held at the art gallery of the Ricardo Brennand Institute in the city of Recife, where a luxurious banquet was organized for about 500 VIP guests. The event was part of the 17th LIDE Business Forum and Luminário Produçoes supplied a complete coverage of sound, lighting and LED panels. The main performance was given by Alceu Valença, a renowned Brazilian artist.
A Powersoft X8 amplifier was used for the main system, composed of six EAW KF730s flown per side, being three speakers managed by pair of channels, while a Powersoft X4 amplifier was in charge of the EAW SB730 subwoofers, with three stacked elements per side and also three boxes handled by pair of channels.
Everyone was very happy with the results. Alveu Valença's FOH engineer, Rogério Andrade, and Tomas Lyra, owner of Luminário Produçoes, received a personal congratulation from the general producer of the event for the sound achieved. "Rogério was really happy with the response he got from the system. After the sound check, the lead guitarist of Alceu wanted to know what was the secret behind the great sound obtained with the EAW brand and approached the stage to see the amplifiers of the Powersoft X Series. He was truly fascinated with the power level despite its size!" said Gera.
"I also have to say that Harmony is a great interface and I am more and more fan every time I use it. The whole system was programmed using this software," he emphasized.
