KNX connects Expo Dubai pavilions

knx expo dubai

International. Until March 31, 2022, the world will have its eyes on Dubai. 192 countries gather at the Expo and will be presented through their impressive pavilions to the 25 million attendees planned. With sustainability as one of the main points of the Expo, KNX, the world's leading technical standard for home and building automation, plays an important role in the exhibition.

"Connecting minds, creating the future"
Ideas, inventions, innovations and dialogue between countries are the central themes of the Expo, which is being held in an Arab country for the first time in its 170-year history. The 35th Expo focuses on sustainability, mobility and opportunities. The slogan of the global exhibition, "Connecting minds, creating the future", also fits with KNX: the technology of the future already connects entire cities, infrastructures and smart buildings, with millions of installations around the world.

So the world's leading technical standard for home and building automation could not be missing at Expo Dubai either. KNX enhances the pavilions of numerous countries with a variety of smart features ranging from HVAC systems to lighting solutions with a human-centric approach, smart presence detectors, and architectural lighting with solar tracking controls, among many other solutions.

Al Wasl Square: the central point
Al Wasl Square, with a diameter of 150 meters, is located in the heart of the Expo and is equipped with a knX-based lighting and air conditioning system. It is the pavilion of the host country, the United Arab Emirates, and also functions as the central axis of the exhibition. The square, which bears Dubai's historic name, is crowned by a translucent 65-meter-high dome shaped like the Expo logo, which serves as an immersive 360-degree projection surface.

"Pavilion of Opportunity": a play of light, shadow and colour
Through the use of KNX thermostats, among other devices, the KNX system ensures perfect weather conditions in the "Pavilion of Opportunity", whose roof floats like a cloud 32 meters above the ground. Several KNX functions allow the impressive play of lights of the "Pavilion of Opportunity", the result of the interaction between transparency, light, shadow and color.

Brazil Pavilion: An Aquatic Landscape
The Brazilian pavilion, with its water plaza, is inspired by the aquatic landscape of the Rio Negro, in the Amazon basin. KNX guarantees the right weather conditions inside. The lighting of the entire pavilion can be fully controlled by the KNX system, as well as the image and light projectors, speakers and aroma diffusers.

Peru Pavilion: on the road to change
KNX's smart apps can also be found in the Peruvian pavilion, symbolizing the changes that have occurred in the history of the South American country. Both the exterior walls, visually based on Peruvian textile art, and the huge interior walls inspired by the ruins of Kuélap, are highlights of the pavilion.

Belarus Pavilion: KNX in the Technology Forest
As the technology of the future, KNX is part of the forest of future technologies. A KNX system ensures optimal control of the parts of the building in the Belarus pavilion. The forest represents the natural heritage of Belarus with its unique European forest landscape.

Morocco Pavilion: under the banner of sustainability
The Moroccan pavilion focuses on sustainability. Equipped with a KNX system, it will remain in use after the Dubai Expo, as it will become a complete residential complex with swimming pool, gym and lounge.

Luxembourg Pavilion: the infinity of the circular economy
The Luxembourg pavilion, controlled by a KNX system, is inspired by a Möbius band, whereby a band is twisted and bent to be a single surface, without beginning or end. Thus representing the circular economy. The pavilion contains several projections and animations showing the country and its inhabitants, while its peculiar architecture offers the feeling of being inside and outside at the same time.

French Pavilion: with the power of light
Light as a source of inspiration, knowledge and creativity is the central element of the architectural concept of the French pavilion. KNX has been chosen as a means of controlling complex lighting installations. The aim of the French pavilion is to rethink progress, create emotions and unleash new ideas to reinvent the world.

Belgium Pavilion: the "Green Ark"
Sustainability is not only an important task for KNX, but also for the Belgian pavilion controlled by KNX, a "Green Ark" dedicated to this theme. It sets out Belgian industrial, technical and scientific knowledge. In terms of design, the pavilion reflects a mixture of Latin artistic romanticism and Anglo-Saxon industrial technical precision.

Saudi Arabia Pavilion: A Glimpse into the Future
The Saudi Arabia pavilion is also equipped with the latest KNX technology. It offers a vision of the future of humanity based on four pillars: people, nature, heritage and opportunities.

Impressive demonstration of KNX's versatility
"We are very honoured that KNX is part of Expo Dubai and can therefore contribute to the successful outcome of this highly regarded global exhibition. We are especially grateful to our KNX members and the system integrators who have made it possible. At Expo Dubai, KNX's versatile applications and comprehensive performance are impressively demonstrated to the global public," explains Franz Kammerl, President of the KNX Association.
