Cyber Security in the Hybrid Work Model

trabajo híbrido

Latin America. In Latin America, as in many parts of the world, the adoption of hybrid work in companies across industries has seen a significant increase. They have recognised the importance of providing flexibility to their employees, allowing them to combine remote and face-to-face work to improve work-life balance. The transition to hybrid work has presented unique challenges:

- Companies are faced with the need to manage teams dispersed in different locations,
- Maintain effective collaboration and
- Address cybersecurity concerns associated with a distributed work environment outside of an office or space.

"The change in work dynamics has driven the need for advanced remote collaboration solutions. Digital transformation has displaced the traditional perimeter-based network defense, i.e. the boundary between an organization's secure internal network and the Internet, or any other uncontrolled external network, in today's environment, where employees collaborate from various devices and locations, the concept of perimeter has expanded significantly." said Rodrigo Cornejo Avendaño, Country Manager Mexico & Director of LATAM Channels at Barco.

Remote access to corporate networks has become critical and IT security management has become a priority. For this reason, the need to ensure the integrity of access for both employees working from home and visitors entering the company's network becomes crucial. These accesses, which previously could have been thought of as separate environments, now require seamless integration into a unified security scheme. The implementation of secure access protocols becomes imperative, ensuring the protection of data and corporate resources for both remote employees and visitors, maintaining the integrity of the corporate network at all times.

Shared responsibility in security
In this changing landscape, we recognize that security becomes a shared responsibility between businesses and solution providers. Integrating tools into corporate environments, especially in hybrid modalities, requires close collaboration.

Applying security best practices and obtaining certifications related to handling data and information securely are essential elements in ensuring a protected environment. It is important to insist that customers configure devices securely, in line with their level of risk, and to apply all firmware updates in a managed manner to fix vulnerabilities.

End-to-end data protection in a hybrid environment
With the increasing adoption of remote work modalities, data security becomes a critical point. It's not only about protecting the data transfer, but also about securing the data stored on participating devices. Secure management of sensitive content becomes essential, regardless of the location or device used.

"The pursuit of cybersecurity in hybrid work is more than a necessity; It is an imperative requirement in today's digital transformation. Companies are not only looking for tools and solutions, but also for active collaboration with suppliers committed to the evolution and constant adaptation of security in this new work paradigm," explains Rodrigo Cornejo.

In a world increasingly affected by information security incidents, the need for secure solutions has become a basic requirement, not an option. Barco's ClickShare, for example, is a solution that has embraced this challenge, understanding that the combination of security, usability and user experience is fundamental and is positioned as an innovative tool that goes beyond simple content sharing. It has ISO27001 certification, encryption at all levels, automatic and free firmware update and 3 levels of security. This allows organizations to have a balance between what the product offers and what is at the forefront of cybersecurity.

Discovering the Zero Trust Model
New remote collaboration features need to be seamlessly integrated into this evolution to the zero trust security model. As part of the solution, the use of traditional UC&C (Unified Communications and Collaboration) communication and collaboration tools should be chosen, which not only facilitate remote collaboration, but also address the security challenges inherent in the new digital era.

"The integration of technologies in corporate environments comes with risks, but with Clickshare mitigating them is a shared responsibility between Barco and our customers. From the beginning of development, we applied best practices and obtained ISO27001:2013 certification, demonstrating our commitment to safety. The security controls built into the solution prevent unauthorized access, protecting both the end customer and the corporate network," said Cornejo.

Privacy at the heart of the design
In a privacy-focused market, ClickShare is an example that has integrated privacy principles from the early stages of development. The principle of privacy by design translates into minimal collection of personal data, and both product lines do not store or transfer personal data outside of the ClickShare ecosystem, ensuring compliance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), the European regulation regarding the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of their personal data and the free movement of this data in the EU and the European Economic Area.

"ClickShare goes beyond collaboration; It involves protecting all data. From transfer to storage, we ensure that only invited attendees have access. The user is in full control, ensuring that Barco's original system runs without security compromises," said Rodrigo Cornejo Avendaño.
