This type of microphone, which has been designed to be invisible and create a completely natural sound with low ambient noise, was coupled to the musical's protagonist characterization, Shrek.
Because this character has no hair, no real ears, only a few small horns, and the microphone could not be placed on the head as is traditionally done, Peter Hylenski, audio designer of the production, decided to place a microphone on each cheek, above and away from the corners of the actor's lips, so that the audience does not see it and the sound is distributed throughout the place, without hindering the show.
