Colombia. With a bus converted into a mobile classroom that has state-of-the-art equipment such as all-in-one computers and laptops, Ipad 2, Smartphone, satellite internet connection and 3GSM, they seek to bring the inhabitants of the city of Medellín closer to ICT.
This project, led by a program of the mayor's office called Medellín Digital, offers the possibility to all people to interact with the teams, meet them, learn from them and for that they have advisors who will explain to the most experts and those who want to sit in front of a computer for the first time.
Camilo Vergara, director of the entity, explained that this strategy began in September 2009, with a smaller bus that managed to travel throughout the city and training about 30,000 people. He added that an investment of $500 million (about US$260,000) was needed to change the bus and adapt it with new technologies, to provide a free service of the best quality. The goal is for 12,000 more people to have the opportunity to meet him.
The Digital Circular is available six days a week for eight hours each day, and has been covering all the neighborhoods of Medellín since the first of June, giving priority to people with low economic resources.
Finally, Camilo Vergara stressed that the service has easy access for people with reduced mobility and a computer equipped for the care of people with physical disabilities, equipped with accessible software, mouse that are controlled with hand, elbow, foot or chin, special keyboards for people with mobility and / or vision difficulties, among others.
