Sales of televisions and lamps benefit the LED sector

International TV LED. The study conducted by Strategies Unlimited indicates that the MARKET for IC drivers for LEDs will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) by 12% between 2010 and 2015, induced by the growing demand for televisions and the switch to LED lamps.

According to the report called "LED Driver ICs – 2011", sales of these drivers will grow by about US$3.5 billion in 2015 from about US$2 billion in 2010.

Demand for LCD TVs will dominate in the near future, with growth in TVs and edge-lit monitors, but the study indicates that LED applications will be the next "next big thing" for LED drivers , starting with the replacement of LED bulbs as a response to improved technology and the phasing out of incandescents.

Within the lighting market, the cost of producing drivers will grow by 40%, this system is defined as the entire LED circuit, including the IC driver but excluding LEDs. Innovations in these kinds of systems will help bring the MAINSTREAM of LEDs, but the market will quickly shake up those who have strict goals for efficiency, power factor, and price.

Strategies Unlimited says the top 10 suppliers in the U.S. have more than 55% of the profits, with about 30 distributors and CI manufacturers sharing the other 44%. The winners will be those who can keep innovating in products at competitive prices.
