Colombia. The lighting on the catwalks was one of the novelties of Colombiamoda 2011, a fair held at the end of July in Medellín.
Inexmoda, the organizing entity, hired the American technician David Overcamp, in charge of the catwalks of the New York Fashion Week and the Mercedes Benz showroom, with the purpose of improving the image of the models when facing the cameras.
That is why he placed on the catwalks lights with a projection range of 40 meters, in a uniform direction and with an inclination that pointed at the back of the models when they went to the cameras. In addition, they put a panel of lights on top of the photographers so that it would illuminate them head-on.
"We managed to eliminate the shadows that were generated on the faces of the models by having only direct lights from above with an inclination of 45º on each side of the catwalk," said David Overcamp.
The lights used were of the incandescent type, because they are easier to handle and provide less heat in the enclosure. To achieve uniformity of lighting on the catwalk, counteracting the potholes that remain between one bulb and another, Overcamp required more lights than previous versions of the fair.
Finally, he pointed out that the lighting of the Colombiamoda catwalks was at the height of the best in the world, such as New York Fashion Week, with the difference that in Colombia there are two catwalks with parades every half hour, while in New York they have more time between each catwalk, which allows them to play with more effects.
