Indianapolis. In the framework of CEDIA Expo 2011, in Indianapolis, this international association revealed through its market research manager, Erica Shonkwiler, the preliminary results of its first annual research that aims to track the size and scope of the residential market for electronic systems, as well as the number of companies serving this area in the United States.
As for this last item, Shonkwiler reveals that it is estimated that there are between 17,500 and 18,500 installation companies, each with average gross annual revenues of US $ 1.6 million.
The report also mentions that there are between 10,500 and 11,500 electronic systems contractors, which focus on the installation of A/V and home control systems.
The industry also consists of 2,500 to 3,500 companies serving the security, installation and distribution of alarm systems segments, as well as an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 home-network/IT installation companies, and 1,250 to 2,250 electrical contractor companies.
"The final results will go beyond these numbers," as it is expected, according to Shonkwiler, that by the end of the fourth quarter of 2011 data from distribution channels will be included, as well as sales figures from suppliers and distributors. The final report will also include the number of people employed by the installation companies.
"In 2012, CEDIA will expand its research efforts to include consumer research and craft creation," Shonkwiler said.
