International. With a 69% increase in total sales of lamps and luminaires, 2011 showed a growth trend in the category of products and components for LED lighting that is expected to be maintained in the coming years, according to a study conducted by Strategies Unlimited.
The report also found that total revenue generated by the LED lighting market reached $9.4 billion in 2011, up significantly from $5.5 billion in 2010.
The previous results, explains Strategies Unlimited, were higher than expected and were led by the commercial and industrial sectors. Likewise, they stressed that this good performance of technology in the lighting sector will help offset the decrease in revenue generated by its use as backlighting on televisions and monitors.
Finally, in terms of future prospects, Strategies Unlimited predicts annual growth of 20% between 2011 and 2016.
