International. Sennheiser was present at the gala of the press event that announced the relaunch of the high-fidelity streaming service Tidal at Roc Nation.
The company's Momentum 2.0 headphones were chosen to demonstrate uninterrupted audio streaming to an audience of big celebrities, industry luminaries, and members of the press. Sennheiser distributed more than 500 hearing aids overnight.
Roc Nation, founded by acclaimed rapper Jay Z in 2008, acquired Tidal developed by Aspiro in February. He was joined by Jay Z at the opening event in New York by Tidal's co-owner artists, including Alicia Keys, Madonna, Jack White, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, J Cole, Daft Punk, Kanye West, and Beyoncé.
"Our mission goes beyond commerce, beyond technology – our purpose is the importance of music in our lives," Alicia Keys said in a formal commentary to the audience. After participating in the signing of a declaration to commit to "restoring the value of music" and "delivering high-quality sound, video and editorial," the artists invited the audience to circulate with their Momentum headphones and experience the listening stations distributed throughout the venue.
This included several stations that streamed hi-fi audio to tablets via the new Tidal platform, as well as stations that demonstrated the music and audio technology of every decade from the '50s to the present.
"Sennheiser has 70 years of experience creating cutting-edge technology to capture and listen to music, so we are fully aware of the challenges that digital compression has created for those who value high-fidelity sound. We are pleased with TIDAL's commitment so that there is no audio loss," said Sennheiser CEO Andreas Sennheiser.
