Argentina. Christie's 1DLP projectors played a stellar role in Sensorium, the stand designed by the company SIA Interactive that the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina deployed in Tecnópolis, the mega exhibition of science, technology, industry and art, based in Buenos Aires, largest in Latin America.
The star of Sensorium was a nine-meter-diameter 4D projection dome that used six Christie DHD800 projectors to show inside in 360 degrees a 10-minute film with images of different tourist destinations and World Heritage sites located in Argentina. It was the first time that a projection of these characteristics was made in this country, which managed to immerse visitors in a total immersion of images.
"We needed reliable equipment that had impeccable execution and could operate with minimal maintenance, as Tecnópolis operates for four months of the year without interruptions," says Adrian Simonovich, CEO of SIA Interactive. "That's why we trust Christie; without a doubt they are world leaders and a very recognized brand, and we wanted to get the best in the market. Once we installed and used the projectors, we checked that we had not made a mistake."
The Christie DHD800 belongs to Christie's line of 1DLP projectors and are ideal for fixed installations and live events. They have HD 1920x1080 resolution and 8000 ANSI lumens.
The film played in the dome on a nine-meter-diameter semisphere was shot with a Point Grey Ladybug camera and required a lot of post-production work that took more than six months to adapt it to the particular projection characteristics in a 360-degree dome.
Different sensors, animations and effects, such as wind, rain, aromas and snow, were integrated into the film, thus completing the 4D experience that allowed attendees to feel the snow falling on the landscapes of Patagonia or the wind on the shore of the Argentine Sea, getting wet when passing through the Iguazu Falls, or smelling the aromas of the fields.
The playback was carried out through a Delta Media Server of 7th Sense, also using the Digi-Park software developed by SIA Interactive, completely designed for digital amusement parks.
Jorge García, Christie's Sales Manager in Latin America, says: "We are delighted with the imagination that SIA Interactive has put into the use of our projectors at Sensorium. SIA Interactive has a great technical and creative team and is one of the most solid options in the region when implementing projection projects."
