Colombia. The technology and engineering for innovation provided by Andercol allowed the Christmas lighting of Medellín to have 250 translucent poles with colored interior lighting this year. The poles are located in the Plaza Mayor sector and the Metropolitan Theater.
It is a contribution of the chemical company of the Orbis Group, in the celebration of its 50 years, to the most recognized Christmas lighting in Latin America. The development of the application of the composite materials was carried out in the company of the research and development area of the company Fibratore, in charge of the manufacture of the poles.
With this technological development of Ingenieros Andercol and Fibratore, Medellín will have from this Christmas some new references of lighting and ornamentation unique in the country. The new light poles measure 9 meters, are of a useful life of no less than 80 years and were developed with superior characteristics in terms of electrical insulation, fire retardation and ease of transport that can be up to 15 times lighter than concrete.
The poles, made with composite materials, have been used in the city since 2004, but this lighting application debuts in Medellín with Christmas lighting. "Composite materials are absolutely versatile and we are sure that by applying the knowledge and science we have at our disposal at Andercol, we will be able to provide even more solutions for the city, in alliance with our customers, who are ultimately the ones who transform the raw materials that we develop," said Andrés Felipe Franco, in charge of New Business Development at Andercol.
Miguel Puerta, Manager of the UEN energy and teleelecommunications of Fibratore, recalled that the first 70 poles were installed on the bridge of Mother Laura. He added that "We had been working on this project for eight months in the company of EPM who defined how and where the whole lighting issue would be handled. This solution was initially proposed to give an aesthetic touch to the entrance to the Moravian neighborhood, and after seeing that it was really shocking and very novel, they decided to take it to the lighting in the main square sector, which this year replace the traditional ones on the river promenade .
