International. For the new generation of the reference vehicles A8, the manufacturer Audi included a renewal of the details and the essential, among which is its lighting system. The changes in this field have to do with the light footprint, focused on the front and rear areas, both have new optics and based on LED technology.
Audi has stood out for its developments in terms of channeled lighting through its Matrix system, which adjusts the light intensity automatically according to the obstacles or road conditions where the vehicle moves.
Matrix is currently available in S8 and W12 versions. Each unit is composed of 25 LED diodes that do not depend on the size and that are the ones that receive the orders of the cameras that measure the level of illumination required at all times. These cameras are located behind the rearview mirror and operate through a processing system that is independent of the vehicle's computer.
The system allows the collection of data and analyze them to anticipate the arrival of a crossing a space with a particular condition. It can discriminate up to eight frontal objects and thus regulate the light required to face each one. The company revealed that the Matrix development group is led by Spaniard César Muntada.
