4K and Laser, Sony's bet on projection

InfoComm. Sony added three new models to its line of professional projectors, designed to deliver high image quality, high brightness and greater flexibility for a variety of commercial applications, including education and business.

The new compact projectors include the models: VPL-EW348, VPL-EW345 and VPL-EX345. Each, with 3LCD technology, offers a brightness of 4200 lumens and uses a new BrightEra panel (WXGA 0.75", XGA 0.63"), to reproduce vivid and natural colors in bright rooms.

The VPL-EW348 features a built-in HDBaseTTM interface to facilitate connectivity and reduce total system costs. These models will be available between September 2015 and January 2016.

In the medium brightness segment, Sony presented its developments with a combination of new laser and lamp models that meet the various budget and installation requirements for commercial, academic, entertainment and large space applications.

The new projectors include two 3LCD laser models (the VPL-FHZ65 and the VPL-FHZ60) that will expand the growing line of Sony projectors with Z-Phosphor laser light source. These join the world's first 3LCD laser projector, the 4000 lumens VPL-FHZ55 model, widely used in small rooms, and the 7000 lumens VPL-FHZ700L model, designed for larger commercial spaces such as museums, educational, government and corporate entities.

The new WUXGA laser models (1920 x 1200) offer a luminosity of 6000 lumens (model VPL-FHZ65) and 5000 lumens (model VPL-FHZ60). For applications where lamp projectors are best used, Sony's new VPL-FH65 (6000 lumens) and VPL-FH60 (5000 lumens) models offer options with excellent value for money and high-quality performance.

The third line of Sony projectors presented at InfoComm, were models that combine 4K images with a laser light source. The VPL-GTZ270, designed for entertainment applications, such as planetariums, theme parks, museums and retail stores; and the VPL-GTZ280 projector, designed for simulation, visualization and training.

Both 5000 lumens models offer native 4K SXRDTM resolution (4096x2160), and add to Sony's VPL-GTZ1 model to create a family of versatile 4K laser light source projectors,  designed for a wide range of commercial and B2B applications. Both also work in 4K 3D mode.

Like all Sony laser projectors, the VPL-GTZ270 and VPL-GTZ280 models offer up to 20,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation (up to 40,000 hours in low brightness mode) without the need to change the lamp, which means significant savings in time and money, reducing the costs normally associated with lamp replacement. This also means that employees are not exposed to the risk of climbing scaffolding or ladders to perform lamp and filter maintenance.

Both models have sealed optics to achieve greater dust resistance in high traffic areas and are quiet, with an operating noise of less than 35 dB. The new projectors offer flexible installation options, with a totally free tilt angle, either for or against the hands of the clock, in portrait or horizontal orientation, forward or backward.
