Since yesterday, the interactive screens that the company Medios Digitales Totem has installed in 50 taxis at the airport in the South of Tenerife provide information about the tourist offer of the Island, the cultural agenda of its municipalities or, for example, the pharmacies on call. The Visual Taxi initiative is the starting point of a new company, formed by the partners Juan Carlos Rocha, who is in charge of its commercial aspect, and Manuel Negrín, who directs the IT and design department of this platform, which MD Totem intends to extend to shopping centers, hotels or tourist buses through Visual Totem products, Visual Bus and Visual Glasses.
"Our axis of work is interactive advertising. We have been developing Visual Taxi for three years from what we saw in other countries, and, as he says, the crisis has sharpened our ingenuity and we have decided to bring something new to the market, "explains Rocha.
Visual Taxi consists of "encapsulating" in the heads of the vehicles an interactive screen in which the user can locate any information, download files or read updated newspapers thanks to the RSS format. In addition, MD Totem is working with La Caixa to incorporate a payment gateway that facilitates telematic purchases for taxi customers. "Although we want to try things step by step, the possibilities are endless," said the head of the commercial department of the company, who values the great acceptance of the platform, in which any advertiser can participate from 198 euros per year. The taxi driver does not pay anything, and even receives a monthly fee for having the device installed.
The platform already has the blessing of Turismo de Tenerife, which presented it at a press conference more than two months ago. MD Totem is already considering implementing it in another 50 taxis, probably from the North Airport, to "diversify" the business and advertising impacts, says Rocha. Although taking advantage of the tourist market is one of the reasons for being of Visual Taxi, the device is not only aimed at those who visit Tenerife. "It is aimed at any user, who will be able, for example, to locate a pharmacy on call, a clinic or a veterinarian, make a videoconference or send an sms. We are talking about a service for the general user of the taxi, to which the local cultural offer will also be brought closer through the "Municipalities" channel, in which we hope that all the municipalities will participate, which will be able to publicize their agenda or present virtual guided tours. In addition, practically everything is downloadable via Bluetooth."
