Colombia. The interactive center Maloka, based in Bogotá, has installed an immersive 3D dome, intended to offer educational content associated with science and technology, for which it has used five Christie Mirage 304K stereoscopic projectors. With 20 million pixels and 8K resolution, Maloka now becomes one of the seven domes of its kind in the world with the best technology in audiovisual presentations.
After 18 years of being inaugurated, the revolutionary Maloka Dome, with capacity for 314 people, has just been renovated to make way for the digital one. The stage, which was the first giant format in South America where 70-millimeter tapes were projected, has replaced its Iwerks 8/70 projector with which it began operating in 1998 with five Christie Mirage 304K of 3DLP technology and 30,000 lumens.
The dome screen is 22 meters in diameter, curved and completely covers the 180-degree dome, which generates a feeling of total immersion in the movies and shows. Each Mirage covers 20% of the dome, producing a whopping 150,000 lumens on screen. Maloka has also incorporated 3D into this space, using active glasses. Technological change allows the viewer to immerse themselves in a magical dimension and make an infinite journey full of sensations and perceptions.
The integral renovation of the dome was carried out by the Swedish company Sciss, an expert in solutions for planetariums. In fact, the dome uses Uniview, Sciss' revolutionary scientific visualization software for the comprehensive management of projections and presentations. As for audio, the room is equipped with Crown amplifiers and speakers that produce 30,000 watts of surround sound.
Regarding the Christie Mirage 304K, Cristina Colimon, Maloka's Chief Operating Officer, says: "The truth is that it is a very powerful projector that is giving us great results. It is a fine machine in its construction and robust in its durability, which provides great brightness and image quality. There are more than 20 million pixels on screen, with an 8K resolution and excellent brightness in both 2D and 3D."
Diego López, General Manager OF NOLA (North Latin America) at Christie, said: "We are delighted that our Mirage Series 3D projectors are equipping a space as innovative and unique in Latin America as Maloka. The truth is that the Mirage 304K has become the reference projector for large-format stereoscopic projections."
Thanks to its unique 4K and 120Hz projection system and Christie's TruLife® electronic technology, the Mirage 304K generates stunning image and color reproduction in immersive and ultra-bright 3D environments. Deployable in all directions, the Christie Mirage 304K can be mounted and operated in any orientation, improving the design and flexibility of your installation.
This is by no means Maloka's first experience with Christie projectors. In that sense, the center has in the same facilities another flat screen 3D auditorium that is equipped with a Christie CP2000 projector. "Maloka has full confidence in the Christie brand," says Cristina Colimon. "The Christie CP2000 that we have had for eight years now in the 3D auditorium has always shown optimal performance," he adds.
For the first performances since it was reopened, the new D 8K Dome, as it has been named, is presenting the educational films Habitat Earth, Return to the Moon and Astronauts by Accident. But additionally, the dome will organize dialogues with experts from all over the world, interconnection with other domes and immersive and multi-screen events on a completely digital platform. It will also be offered to make immersive corporate presentations.
