Mexico. Epson provided its technological support, for the third consecutive year, to the winning Formula 1 team "Mercedes-AMG Petronas", sealing the union of two brands committed to the constant search for the creation of high quality products and services.
Moverio augmented reality (AR) lenses, high-performance enterprise printers and equipment to print color labels from the manufacturer, were used in the team's garage to optimize their performance during the Mexican Grand Prix.
As 2016 world champions, the "Mercedes-AMG Petronas" team has continued its winning streak in the 2017 Formula 1 season. In its global alliance with Epson, epson serves as the official partner and supplier of inkjet printers, scanners, 3LCD projectors and wearable technology, including its smartglasses and smart watches and wristbands for sports practice or personal health care of athletes. This happens both at their headquarters in England, and on their tours of the world.
Engineers and drivers have to remember all the procedures during the races and clearly printed instructions save milliseconds in the team's decision-making. On the other hand, the technology of the Moverio smart lenses, with its integrated camera, a gyroscope, GPS and other sensors, allows the software designed for each need of the user, to interpret their movements and give them more information about their environment, in this case, the environment inside a racing garage. Additionally, during the design process of the single-seaters, Epson's wide-format printers help to generate high quality and accurate images of the different parts that integrate them.
"Mercedes-AMG Petronas" is one of the dominant teams in Formula 1, composed of Lewis Hamilton, now quadruple world champion, and Valtteri Bottas, the eleventh driver to get a Silver Arrow in the competition. Another agreement of the alliance with Epson, is that the logo of this is present in the vehicles, in the visors of the helmets and in the suits of these pilots.
"We are proud to continue to be official partners of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team," said Epson President and Global CEO Minoru Usui , "thanks to this partnership, two winning and globally recognized brands are aligned, committed to the relentless pursuit of innovation, achieving global leadership positions and creating products and services that continue to exceed the expectations and emotional commitment of our customers all over the world."
This alliance also brings together two companies that have a strong commitment to minimize environmental impact. Epson works to achieve a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions in its current and future operations by 2050, reducing the effects on the environment during the manufacturing process and life time of its products. For example, mercedes-AMG Petronas' W05 F1 hybrid vehicle, used by the team in 2016 and winner of the championship, consumed 30% less fuel than its predecessor.
