Chile. Christie signed a commercial agreement with the new Chilean cinema chain Muvix to equip 40 cinemas across the country over the next three years with its digital cinema projectors.
Muvix is the new brand of the Syem Group, a family business that operates in the exhibition segment in Chile with the Cine Star brand, which has four complexes in the country and is the only exhibition chain in the country with Chilean capital.
While Cine Star focuses on small cities of between 40,000 and 70,000 inhabitants with cinemas of no more than four theaters, Muvix, on the other hand, comes to be located in the great commercial developments of the country, pretending through them to improve and renew the offer that the industry currently has in the country.
Thus, Muvix wants to place itself among the main players in the national market and compete side by side with the most important multinationals in the sector. However, the new exhibitor will not remain alone in Chilean territory, as it plans to expand to other countries in South America, with Peru as its first destination.
Sebastián Martínez, CEO and founder of Muvix, explained: "We knew Christie projectors very well since we as a family have been in this industry for more than 60 years and we had to use their 35-millimeter projectors. We have the best references of the brand, and the technical team that we are forming comes from different exhibitors in the industry and has had in some cases to work with Christie".
He added: "For Cine Star and Muvix it is not a gamble to have chosen Christie as their projection partner. Today as a company we are in a stage of expansion of both chains, so it was very important to know how to choose the technological partners that will accompany us in the long term. Christie demonstrated above all other projection brands a remarkable interest and involvement in our expansion project. We know that your products are leaders in quality; we were in his factory in Canada seeing the production processes and the new that will come, which further ratified our decision to work together."
The first Muvix complex to be equipped with Christie's cinema projectors will be located in the city of Punta Arenas (south of the country) and is expected to open its doors in December of this year. It will be a multiplex of four rooms and approximately 700 reclining seats, which will make it the largest and most modern in the city. Specifically, this complex will have two Christie CP2208 projectors, a CP2215 and a CP2230.
Diego López, general manager OF NOLA and Christie's Andean Region, said: "We are delighted that Muvix has chosen us as their projection partner for their next ventures. We know that this chain is committed to delivering the highest standards in projection to be able to differentiate itself from its competitors, and we are sure that through our products and service they will be able to offer added value to their audience."
In 2018, Muvix will launch new theaters in Santiago and Linares, and in 2019 in Talca, Antofagasta and Talagante, with an initial investment of close to 20 million dollars. Each of these cinemas will be located in shopping malls that will be built or are being built at the moment.
