International. Panasonic has installed a wide range of audiovisual equipment to provide the best experience for spectators and athletes who make use of the Tokyo National Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as athletics events and other sports competitions.
The installed equipment includes large format LED screens, audio systems, digital signage solutions, lighting and air conditioning technology, all this to create a comfortable and functional environment for attendees and amplify the excitement of each competition that will take place there.
The new National Stadium was built on the same site as the former Olympic Stadium, which hosted the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, which was demolished in 2015 to make way for new and modern facilities that are based on the concept "a stadium in the forest" as it was designed to mix elements of nature, such as trees or vegetation, with first-class technology. This juxtaposition between nature and technology makes the stadium a worthy space representative of Japanese culture.
Among the Panasonic audiovisual equipment installed in the stadium, which can be enjoyed by the 68 thousand spectators who meet during the Games, two gigantic large-format LED screens stand out, with dimensions of 9 x 32 meters, installed in the north and south headers of the stadium, in addition to 12 linear arrangement speaker systems that allow clear and immersive audio, with coverage both in the stands, as well as on the track and field.
Panasonic solutions at Tokyo National Stadium:
Large Format Full HD LED Screens
Screen at the south head of 9 meters high x 32 meters wide.
Screen at the north head 9 meters high x 36 meters wide, including 4 meters for a hand clock, 45-minute counter and timer.
Audio Systems
Linear array speaker system (competition audio): 8 24-speaker arrays and 4 14-speaker arrays, for a total of 38 speakers.
The RAMSA linear array system, model WS-LA4WP, from Panasonic, was selected for the acoustic characteristics required by a stadium, since it meets the needs of amplifying the sound clearly, both for those who are nearby, and for the most remote areas, in a large space. The system creates optimal sound thanks to the use of high-resolution simulation software. The arrangements feature a metal mounting structure that allows for practical and safe installation.
Lighting System
Lighting for the competition areas: approximately 1,300 units. And in the spectator area: 200 units more approximately.
Panasonic installed the "Stadium Beam" LED lamps that allow to create an optimal lighting environment that meets the lighting design standards of a stadium. Thinking about television transmission, its technology ensures the capture of images at high speed and the correct color reproduction to create an ideal color contrast for the production of content with 4K and 8K quality, especially for red tones (Ra 90 color reproduction plus a special R9 80 index for red tones).
In addition, with immediate on/off technology, the lamps minimize image flicker during high-speed playback of slow-motion video. With patented light distribution design technology, the lamps also optimally reduce the light focus to prevent glare and clearly illuminate the field of view of competitors and offer the best coverage for viewers.
Digital Signage System, 600 screens distributed throughout the stadium.
Panasonic used the "AcroSign" Digital Signage system that allows content to be sent remotely to several devices at the same time. In this way, viewers will be able to see various contents about the competitions, results, markers or upcoming activities, depending on the area in which they are.
