International. IMCCA is an association that seeks to strengthen and grow the unified communications and collaboration industry, by providing thought leadership, unbiased information, and education. The association has just presented its inclusion initiative.
What is the ImCCA Inclusion Initiative about?
The Inclusion Initiative at IMCCA focuses on the efforts that the UC&C industry can make to drive towards a more inclusive world. As leaders in communication and collaboration technology, IMCCA member firms understand the importance of having a powerful technology stack: the technology infrastructure behind their products.
The inclusion initiative's mission is to raise awareness of an equally important stack, the STACC of inclusion, which represents the stories, technology, accessibility, careers, and inclusion-focused connections behind its customers and employees.
Who leads the Inclusion Initiative?
Anthony DeVergillo is a motivated communication professional with a focus on rare diseases. He lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that weakens muscles, but he never lets that stop him from advocating for the inclusion of people with disabilities in society. At Amicus Therapeutics, you partner with employees to unify brand, people, and message. She is also a board member of Our Odyssey, a nonprofit that works to empower young adults living with a rare disease through social connection.
Gary LaSasso is the senior director of global IT at Amicus Therapeutics. It examines, defines, specifies and manages the technology needed to connect scientists and specialists around the world as they develop new therapies to treat and hopefully cure a variety of devastating rare and orphan diseases. Gary is motivated to help create a more inclusive workplace, where software and hardware innovation level the playing field for people living with disabilities. He looks forward to working on this initiative.
Both IMCCA President Michael Brandofino and IMCCA Program Director Dr. S. Ann Earon are committed to supporting this effort.
Why is this an important thing for the collaboration industry to focus on?
Suddenly, when the world faced a global pandemic, and almost everyone had to work remotely, most knowledge workers were finally on the same plane as those struggling to get there and work in an office. It took this global pandemic to usher in a technological renaissance that allowed Anthony and others living with disabilities to finally feel included in society.
