International. Agustí Torelló Mata is one of the big names in the production of sparkling wines in Europe. Settled in the heart of the Penedès (Catalonia, Spain), capital of cava, he forged his personal work consolidating himself as one of the best winemakers in the country. In 1978 he produced his masterpiece, KRIPTA, recognized as one of the great sparkling wines of the world.
Currently it is his two children Alex and Gemma who are in charge of the family winery with an annual production of 500,000 bottles of cava and 120,000 of wine, which are exported to more than 30 countries.
The cavas, one of the most beautiful in the region, are located in the municipality of Sant Sadurní d ́Anoia, in a bucolic combination of Mediterranean forests and vineyards. There are guided tours that tour the wine cellar and the underground cellars to learn about the characteristics of the Penedès and the particularities of the elaboration and aging process.
One of the highlights of this visit is in the tunnel that connects the underground cellars. A curved screen of more than 30 meters long is the background of the impressive audiovisual show about the process of making cava and the native varieties used for it. A journey of music, images and sensations through the seasonal cycle of this sparkling wine, in what constitutes an unprecedented audiovisual installation in a winery.
For this, four projectors of 6000 lumens equipped with wide-angle optics are used that offer a total resolution on the screen of 4096 x 768 pixels. It is an audiovisual installation made entirely by the company Kodec, in which Charmex has been the supplier of audiovisual equipment.
The surprise generated by visitors this 10-minute audiovisual show is spectacular, since both the screen that is camouflaged with the tunnel itself and the audio and lighting are activated unexpectedly automatically when the public is approaching the space.
This is achieved thanks to a motion sensor that synchronizes with a Crestron CP3 control system, which is integrated in turn with Christie® Pandoras Box video processing and show control solutions. Specifically, a Pandoras Box Compact Player with four HDMI outputs and a Pandoras Box Manager are used for the management of warping and projection blending.
Pandoras Box Widget Designer has also been incorporated, an intuitive software tool to create custom show control applications, which in this project is used to program the automatism of the projection.
Marc Marquès, from Kodec, explains why Pandoras Box was chosen for this project: "We were looking for a very simple, practical and robust system. We had done several installations with Pandoras Box and it is a solution that we love because it offers security, reliability and above all robustness. For this project we needed to have very robust equipment that did not give problems, and Pandoras Box was the natural choice. In addition, it must be said that it is a machine to make blendings".
The system is completed with the Biamp Tesira audio distribution platform, Bose speakers and ERCO lighting. The integration of Crestron CP3 with Pandoras Box also allows the complete automation of lights, audio and video.
In that sense, the specialized consultant David Gálvez, who was in this project in charge of the configuration of Pandoras Box and the warping and blending settings, highlights the power of the Widget Designer to make automations, "because you can program whatever you can think of, it is totally open programming and allows you to both receive and send commands to and from other systems, whether it's lights, audio, displays, etc."
He adds: "Pandoras Box as a whole is a super powerful solution for its projection adjustment, warping and blending tools. It is a tremendously configurable system that offers you an infinite amount of resources to solve complex warpings".
The truth is that Christie's award-winning Pandoras Box are fully operational in the cellars of Agustí Torelló Mata. "The final result is spectacular and exerts a great impact on visitors, providing a fantastic visual experience that is the finishing touch to the visit to the cellar", concludes Marc Marquès de Kodec.
