Mexico. In recent years we have heard about Cloud Computing, or cloud computing; which is a model of storage and processing of services and information, stored on external servers of different service providers, offered privately, hybridly or publicly; in which it can be accessed from a large number of devices regardless of the place or time, as long as the user has access to the Internet.
During the last year, this type of services had a great acceptance in companies that decided to make the leap to the benefits offered by technology, which not only allowed them to save costs, offers them the opportunity to increase their productivity from any point. By next year, cloud computing will become one of the biggest focuses for businesses, encompassing significant investment globally.
According to the consultancy IDC, the total share of sales in cloud infrastructure had a growth of 31.4% in Q2 2015, compared to 26% recorded last year. Revenue from private cloud sales grew 19.5% to $2.8 billion, and for public clouds 30.4%, equivalent to $4.1 billion.
Enterprises need to master the integration and management of the scenarios offered by hybrid clouds. Software vendors should also aim for 2018 to convert nearly 100% of their portfolio to the cloud.
2016: The Year of Hybrid Cloud:
Despite the increase in the adoption of private or public clouds, an increase in hybrid cloud is expected for 2016; thanks to the fact that companies have realized that the private cloud is too expensive for the type of benefits it offers and for what is required within the organization; for its part, the public cloud will continue to grow, but not to a large extent because it does not have the necessary tools for IT managers.
As a result, the hybrid cloud will be in the eyes of IT leaders, making a change to it to be able to have the necessary tools to innovate and offer its different services to employees or customers, but at a much lower cost than the private one.
While hybrid cloud offers as its main benefit a higher speed compared to the public, and a lower cost than the private one, a bad implementation can become the opposite, increasing the cost of this and harming the performance of aggregated services in the cloud.
Increased adoption of Cloud Services:
These types of services provide information technologies (IT) with a dedicated network with delivery according to demand and payment of the required use; ranging from development platforms and complete applications, storage, servers and virtual desktops. Companies have stopped seeing the cloud as a place where they can store all their information and will begin to adopt in greater proportion the different services they offer for their benefit.
In the cloud you can find a large number of services provided internally, or by service providers, the most prominent are:
Software as a Service (SaaS): The software runs on computers that are owned by the SaaS provider, eliminating the need to install and manage it on users' computers. It can be purchased with a monthly or annual subscription.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): The infrastructure provider provides compute, storage, networking, and other elements such as security and various tools. Users own the operating systems, applications, and information that runs on the infrastructure; they manage them and pay for use.
Platform as a Service (PaaS): This provides all the software and hardware needed to build and run cloud-based applications. Users pay for the use of the platform and control how applications are used throughout their lifecycle.
According to IDC, by 2018 more than 70% of enterprises will adopt public cloud IaaS and SaaS capabilities, through network or interconnection providers.
Cloud Computing, the foundation of the Internet of Things (IoT):
The Internet of Things is one of the services that most take advantage of the cloud, since within it is the interconnection with the services it offers. Today, companies are discovering the opportunities offered by the IoT. It is forecast that by 2020 there will be more than 250,000 new Internet of Things (IoT) applications and services.
Gartner expects that by 2016 more than 6.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide; 30% more than in 2015, and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. In 2016, 5.5 million new things will be connected every day. Services are dominated by the professional category, however connectivity services (through communications service providers) and consumer services will grow at a faster rate.
Big Data:
According to IDC's predictions, the market for technology and services involving Big Data will have an annual growth of 23% until 2019, In addition, the consultancy predicts that annual spending will reach $ 48.6 billion dollars in the same year.
As the days go by, companies and users are generating more information, which – if not exploited – could only be stored in the cloud, would be wasted and would not take advantage of Business Analytics or Business Intelligence.
Organizations and IT managers will continue to adopt Big Data to obtain, save and analyze the information generated by users, customers or employees; studying in which areas the business can have opportunities to increase its sales.
Mobile Apps:
Mobile apps have had an increase in the use of location, not only to make purchases, or for advertising as has been talked about in recent years. Mobile apps make the most of cloud computing for different Internet of Things services, games or location-based services, such is the case of apps to request a taxi or to make a reservation in hotels or houses for rent to spend the following weekend.
The cloud and mobile applications will also benefit from the great capabilities of cloud computing, with various launches of the wereables, businesses can benefit from creating an ideal application for these devices, sending relevant information to users directly to these devices without the need for them to take their Smartphone out of their pocket.
As time goes by, more companies are getting on the cloud, exploiting the different tools that can be integrated, and above all, knowing what type of cloud is the one that best suits your business to offer your customers a better experience when interacting with your services.
