Latin America. According to BARCO, hospitals can draw inspiration from the design of air traffic control centers to implement further optimization in the healthcare sector, following their proven management strategies.
Propose the question: how are a hospital and an air traffic control center similar? It sounds like the premise of a comic act, however, it has a relationship anchored in that both are spaces where mismanagement could compromise hundreds of human lives.
That is, although hospitals are critical infrastructures that have a high degree of complexity, according to the health demand they represent, at the same time, air traffic control centers have an important role to play in ensuring the safety of thousands of people every day, so it is crucial to have a clear and real-time overview of all available information.
For BARCO, this resemblance has led hospital directors and health professionals to be inspired by the management resources used in traffic control, as they similarly have in their hands the well-being of thousands of people with critical decision-making.
Francisco Fandiño, general manager for Latin America at BARCO, commented that: "The similarities between both sectors have led decision makers to look for an overview, composed of different parameters and sources of information that are important to monitor the flow of patients and hospital operations."
In addition, he noted that while air traffic controllers must make efficient use of airspace, health specialists are challenged to do more with less and adjust that budget to challenging requirements.
Thus, the expert suggested that the joint work in the health control operations centers and the assistive technologies for various areas within the hospitals, are the result of the transition to smarter clinical centers.
Francisco was emphatic that through the integration of health technologies and operational image, benefits such as the reduction of waiting times, emergency management, hospital surveillance, ambulance monitoring, resources and personnel are obtained. "At Barco, we not only focus on the main areas such as radiology, surgery or pathology, but on a complete experience of support to specialists from the operating room to a complete overview of their facilities"
Finally, for the benefit of health centers, it is concluded that having a space that allows monitoring all aspects of hospital operations represents the key point to improve patient care. In other words, a healthcare operations center helps monitor all aspects of hospital operation physically and remotely, resulting in a more satisfying experience for the patient, medical staff, and surveillance staff.
