Latin America. Christie and Dolby Laboratories renewed their collaboration to develop the next generation of Dolby Vision laser projection systems, which will begin to be implemented in cinemas from May.
The Dolby Vision projection system will build on the cinematic experience that filmmakers, viewers and exhibitors have come to expect since Dolby Cinema was introduced ten years ago.
With more than twice the brightness of regular cinema projections and a contrast ratio that exceeds one million to one, viewers will be able to enjoy brighter whites, darker blacks and sharper details. To deliver highly saturated and realistic colors, this new 4K projection system will employ pure RGB laser lighting, enabling Dolby Wide Color Gamut 1.0 to be achieved, which nearly doubles the color spectrum of Rec. 709 and covers 122% of the DCI-P3 space.
With improved reliability and efficiency, the next-generation Dolby Vision laser projection system delivers superior long-term performance while being easy to operate. And thanks to its lighter design and more compact chassis, it will be more easily integrated into a variety of premium theaters, expanding Dolby Vision's reach to more audiences.
This includes Dolby Cinema, Dolby's most advanced cinema experience, as well as the recently announced Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos solution, designed for premium exhibitors' own theaters.
