International. The 400 lamps that currently illuminate one of the most important skyscrapers in the world, the Empire State Building in New York, will be replaced by LED luminaires.
With this change it is expected that the building will achieve significant savings at the energy level and that it will also renew its image by using the possibilities of this type of light to generate visual spectacles.
In total, they will install 1,200 devices with a total of 68,000 LED bulbs, which can be manipulated independently through a computer, thus allowing different lighting effects to be created.
The company chosen to make the replacement is Philips Color Kinetics, which will allow its façade and mast to change lighting scenes in real time. As for the environmental benefits, it is expected that the installation of the new luminaires, which will be completed by October of this year, will generate an energy saving of 75%.
"Throughout our $550 million program for the reconstruction of the Empire State Building, we have seen every aspect of the building to make it energy efficient and install advanced technology, commensurate with its status as the most famous office building in the world," said Anthony Malking, president of Malkin Holdings.
