International. A decrease of 3.6% in the revenues invoiced by the lighting sector in Spain during 2011, reported the Asociación Nacional de Fabricantes de Iluminación (Anfalum).
According to data released by the association, Spain generated revenues of $1,354 million euros last year, which represents a decrease compared to the 1,405 million euros invoiced in 2010.
This was due to a decrease in domestic demand that could not be compensated by the improvement in exports of this productive sector. Anfalum reported a decrease of 7.9% in the domestic market, while in exports there was an increase of 6.7%.
Although the main customer for Spanish lighting products was the European Union, with 56%, among the non-European countries that made up the remaining 44%, the role of South America stood out, a region that bought 15% of Spanish exports.
Given these figures, the president of Anfalum, Rafael Barón, said that "there was only a slight drop of -3.6%, thanks mainly to the good data from exports and new technologies, such as LEDs".
And he concluded by saying that "it is a normal behavior if we take into account the current economic context, since national demand fell by -6.9%, a figure similar to that of other industrial sectors and even lower in some cases."
