Spain. The Madrid metro expects to achieve savings of 12 million euros per month on its electricity bill, thanks to a series of measures aimed at making its facilities a more efficient space.
Among the strategies proposed by the organization is the replacement of 330,000 fluorescent lights with LED lighting. It is expected that this measure will be reflected in an energy saving of 50% compared to the current installation.
It is also planned to carry out a review of the scheduled shutdown systems, which are used in stations, stairs and stalls to ensure that after the closure of the service they are turned off. With the above, it is expected to achieve an approximate saving of 1.5 million euros per year.
In addition to the modifications made to the metro lighting system, changes will also be made in the air conditioning area; establishing different utilization models according to the seasons of the year, the hours of the day and the level of activity of the seasons.
