International. Microphone manufacturer Sennheiser celebrates 15 years in the market for its Evolution concert microphone line, which marked the manufacturer's entry into this market segment, because it was previously concentrated on broadcast.
The first system of this reference saw the light in 1998, as a microphone solution not only for voices, but also for instruments. Since then, the company has sold approximately 10 million Evolution microphones both wired and wireless.
According to Michael Polten, Director of Customer Relationship Management at Sennheiser, one of the main challenges was to make microphones with the highest quality but could not exceed a certain price range. The solution was to locally manufacture high-quality microphones through a fully automated production process.
This meant a greater risk in financial and technical terms because such a production line had never been developed before. Together with a company specializing in precision engineering, the company's engineers and product specialists began to develop a production line for the manufacture of dynamic microphones and capsules.
In 2003, for the development of the new models, they devised a test model by which the microphones were tested in their natural environment before being presented to the market and thus being able to know exactly what the required solutions were.
