International. Christie is honored to be an official digital projection partner of the 41st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). To be held between September 8 and 19, 2016, the Festival attracts worldwide attention every year by screening 400 feature films and shorts, hosting up to 20 galas and watching a whole galaxy of stars parade down its red carpet.
Christie, which this year celebrates sixteen consecutive editions as an official sponsor of the event, brings to the festival's projections the leading digital solutions of the market, all of them in 4K, the most spectacular resolution of those currently existing in the seventh art industry.
As Diane Cappelletto, director of TIFF's technical projection services, explains, "There are such strong and rewarding partnerships for both parties that they end up having a life of their own. This is the case of the one that links TIFF with Christie, which in this edition celebrates sixteen years of commitment to excellence. As an official digital projection partner, Christie gives us the possibility to use cutting-edge technology and to project films with precision and brilliance, reproducing for our audience exactly what the filmmakers contemplated when putting the finishing touches on their creations."
Andrei Gravelle, Senior Technical Director at TIFF, said: "Film festivals exemplify the perfect marriage of art and technology. It is no coincidence that the use of cutting-edge technology such as that provided by Christie has resulted in a steady growth in the number of awards organized within the framework of TIFF. Films are selected for their artistic excellence, but the confidence that comes from showing them at our festival is clearly due to our ability to put the best possible image on screen today."
Christie projectors will work in all spaces of the festival. The Roy Thomson Hall, Princess of Wales Theatre, VISA Screening Room at the Elgin Theatre, and the Ryerson Theatre will be illuminated with Christie's Solaria Series CP4230 projectors, which with their 4K resolution have a brightness output of 34,000 lumens.
Christie's projectors will also illuminate spaces such as the Winter Garden Theatre, jackman Hall at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the TIFF Bell Lightbox where they are permanently installed, offering the audience attending the festival an unbeatable cinematic experience. In addition, Christie is a co-sponsor of the Industry Lounge, a meeting space where film industry delegates can relax, work and network.
Christie's Solaria Series of digital cinema projectors includes two models with native 4K resolution: the Christie CP4220 and the Christie CP4230. Both projectors comply with the standards decreed by DCI and offer a cinematic experience that fascinates all types of audiences.
"Film festivals around the world rely on Christie, one of the world's leaders in advanced film and display technologies, to fill their screens with light. We see it at the Toronto International Film Festival, but also at Cannes, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and other competitions, which enjoy the best digital projection technology that Christie offers and that allows the creative visions of the filmmakers to be captured on the screen", concludes Kathryn Cress, Vice President of Global and Corporate Marketing at Christie.
