Latin America. Powersoft is sponsoring the cross-platform app PAcalculate, which operates on mobile Android, iOS, Windows-Phone and Blackberry devices — including smartphones and tablets.
Developed by Brusi Acoustics, an electroacoustics consulting firm and independent laboratory for loudspeaker directivity testing, it is marketed by Doctor Pro Audio. This multilingual app (currently in simplified Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) contains various types of calculations, utilities and reference information. That is why it is a useful tool for everyone who works with PA, sound reinforcement, sound systems, electroacoustics, professional audio and also lighting.
Explaining the decision of this sponsorship, Francesco Fanicchi, Director of Brand and Communications at Powersoft, said: "We have decided to implement our brand in the app, with a focus on a section dedicated to Powersoft limiter thresholds."
This Powersoft tool has been developed to help users set a benchmark for limiter programming, perform tests in real situations to validate and fine-tune the results. To use this tool, users simply need to select AES power - Nominal Impedance - Safety Level (from 'Safe' to 'Performance') of the speakers and the consequent result will allow them to program a maximum voltage (for example: Vrms Threshold - Vpeak Threshold - Clip V).
Because these limiters follow Powersoft-specific criteria, the company has added a description to emphasize that the correct limitation requires at least two serial stages. The first is a slow reaction time for RMS level, designed to behave as thermal protection for the voice coil. The second, with faster time constants, is programmed to protect the transducer from excessive voltage spikes and, therefore, from mechanical damage. Finally, there is the optional Clip Limiter (Powersoft X series and Ottocanali) with zero attack time and anticipation (look-ahead). It is designed to program maximum voltage, which should never be mixed without adding distortion.
José Brusi, the developer of the app, commented: "I have a very high esteem for the Powersoft brand for its constant innovation, both inside and outside its comfort zone, so it's great to have Powersoft as a sponsor of PAcalculate and join the growing community of users on the different platforms."
