Latin America. Cisco presented at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2016 a Cloud service designed to help urban managers take advantage of data in real time.
Dubbed the Cisco Smart+Connected Digital Platform, the Cloud platform enables cities to benefit from the Internet of Things by securely collecting data from sensors, cameras, mobile devices and other connected objects from multiple vendors.
The analysis of this data collected in real time facilitates decision-making so that urban departments and agencies can improve their operational efficiency, reduce costs and increase revenue sources in different segments such as lighting and smart parking, traffic, waste and environmental management, surveillance and security and other urban services.
Local administrations and agencies can also share data with other bodies – as well as citizens, visitors and businesses – to remove barriers. By integrating data securely, fully informed decisions can be made more quickly and effectively.
For example, traffic departments can use third-party applications and the Smart+Connected Digital Platform open API to visualize the data collected both inside and outside their department. By accessing data from traffic cameras, but also data from environmental sensors, measures can be taken to avoid traffic jams, reduce pollution or act more quickly in case of emergency.
Cisco also presented, in a practical way, the operation of this digital platform, starring different cities that are already taking advantage of its advantages, including Kansas City (Missouri, USA), Jaipur (India), Greater Copenhagen (Denmark), and Adelaide (Australia).
