Colombia. The Chilean company de Estudios de Ingeniería y Construcciones S.A. – Esinco, was in charge of installing the new sound and lighting systems in the Salt Cathedral, which required an investment of $ 4,100 million (about US $ 2,400) and the work of 250 people.
This intervention in one of the most visited sites in Colombia by national and international tourists, located in the municipality of Zipaquirá, near the capital Bogotá, began last January.
The new lights correspond to RGB LED systems that integrate a system of lighting, sound and local control of shows. To install Philips' 99,005 light-emission diodes (LEDs) and 546 state-of-the-art luminaires, 180 meters deep in the Cathedral, it was necessary to remove 80 tons of rock and 1,500 cubic meters of earth and use 10 kilometers of cable.
"The objective of this new lighting was to modify the thinking, to have the flexibility to change according to the needs of each space, looking for new ways to create effects that respond to the history and meaning of each of the 14 stations of the Cross, ships and other spaces," said the general manager of Esinco, Marta Elena Pineda.
The incidental sound of the Salt Cathedral is stereo and is integrated into the lighting effects of the 14 stations of the Cross, dome and naves of birth, life, death and resurrection.
