International. The car firm Audi, announced that it will begin to implement new models of exterior and interior lighting, using the possibilities offered by OLED technology.
The company expects to incorporate OLED lighting into the design of its new models in the medium term and anticipates that in a few years it will be possible to use this technology in the mass production of its vehicles, initially for daylight functions and side lights.
Among the possibilities offered by this technology and that the company hopes to apply, is the ability to use complete surfaces as light sources, thus providing a wide panorama for the creation of new designs.
Audi's head of lighting and electronics innovations, Stephan Berlitz, said in a statement that "OLED surfaces are themselves light sources. They weigh little, ignite very quickly, generate a very small amount of heat, last for several tens of thousands of hours, and consume no more energy than light-emitting diodes."
Finally, Berlitz stressed that it is not possible to achieve some light effects with current LED luminaires, so the implementation of OLED lights will open a new range of applications that will benefit the consumer both for their design and for their functionality.
