Uruguay. The local government of Montevideo closed the call for proposals for the renovation of the city's public lighting, with 969 proposals that are aimed at 70% to the installation of new systems and 30% in the renovation of what exists.
According to the representatives of the municipality of Montevideo, most of the proposals point to the use of LED lighting systems, and it is estimated that they will be executed from next year.
The renovation of Montevideo's lighting is part of the Uruguayan government's plan, led by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works through its Realizar plan, which seeks to allow citizens to choose the works they require for their municipalities. This year lighting works have already been carried out in half of the country's municipalities.
The choice of the best proposal will be made by means of a vote from next October 11 and until the 31 of the same month, after a process of purification of all the projects presented through which the proposals that are not technically or economically viable will be eliminated.
And although the government defends that this is an initiative that seeks to open the participation of citizens in the choice of the projects they require, the success will be in the purification of the proposals so that they can only choose between the best, because in technical issues such as lighting not always the common people have extensive knowledge.
